PEARLS OF WISDOM FROM THE PROPHET SERIES - PART 6

We have started this series as an effort to awaken and help Muslims realize that the very peers they cheer and idealize for various "wisdom filled" quotations were preceded by someone they ought to adore and love more than their own selves. Prophet Muhammad may allah exalt his mention taught us innumerable pearls of wisdom , such that even if one-quarter of it were applied today, it would transform the society into an ideal one.

Muslims should learn the blessed and wisdom filled teachings of their Prophet;  so not only would they cherish the gift Allah graced them with but also use it in daw`ah to help convey and illuminate the hearts of Non Muslims showing them the justice, the wisdom and much more which our Prophet came with. I personally believe and always say : " Let the article speak for itself" and with this in the Name of Allah i begin enlisting the Pearls of wisdom of our prophet which are not only vital for our society but also equally important for us to achieve inner peace and ultimate salvation. Bear in Mind all of this is 14 centuries old.

PEARLS OF WISDOM 36- ENCOURAGEMENT TO STUDY MEDICAL SCIENCE

It was narrated that Abu’l-Dardaa’ (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: the Messenger of Allaah  (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Allaah created the disease and the cure, so treat disease but do not treat it with anything that is haraam.”

[Ref: Narrated by al-Tabaraani in al-Mu’jam al-Kabeer, 24/254. This hadeeth was classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in al-Silsilah al-Saheehah, 1633].

This and many other narrations from the prophet encourage a person to look into the treatments or cures for various ailments.  In his life time, he also encouraged calling the doctors and getting ourselves treated from them. Though this seems to be a de-facto fact today, yet the importance of a religious leader encouraging his followers to delve into Medical science and be of good use to the society is worth pondering over why he was sent as a good example to be followed.

At the same time he (peace and blessings be upon him) also warned from indulging in forbidden ways (includes bribery, purposely elongating a patient's case for more money, etc) while dealing with this field.

PEARLS OF WISDOM 37 – FULFILMENT OF TRUST ESPECIALLY BY THE ONE CONSULTED FOR ADVICE

The prophet (sallalahu `alayhi wa sallam) said :

المستشار مؤتمن

The one who is consulted (for advice) is entrusted

[Ref: Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 256; The context of this statement of the prophet can be read from this hadeeth : http://sunnah.com/adab/13/1]

Not only did our Prophet remind the one giving the advice but he also laid down certain symptoms which will all the more refrain a Muslim from breaching anyone's trust

The signs of the hypocrite are three: when he speaks, he lies; when he makes a promise, he breaks it; and when he is entrusted with something, he betrays that trust.”

[Ref: Narrated by al-Bukhari, 33; Muslim, 59]

And he peace and blessings be upon him also said  " he is not one of us who betrays the trust"

PEARLS OF WISDOM 38 – THE IMPORTANCE OF AN ORAL PROMISE

It is reported that the prophet (sallalahu `alayhi wa sallam) said :

عدة المؤمن كأخذ الكف

A promise made by the believer orally is as strong (and binding on him) as a promise that he makes by striking his hand (on the hand of other person – this was a gesture of absolute agreement or finalization of a treaty or promise back then)

[Ref:  Shaykh Yaseen al-Fadani narrated this in العجالة في الأحاديث المسلسلة on page 71; Also reported by Shah Muhaddith dhelvi in his `Arbaeen via his sanad back to Abu Taahir – Zayn al-`Abideen - `Hussain - `Ali .  Daylami also brought this in Musnad Firdous as said in Kanz ul-`Ummal (3/617); See Jaami` as-sagheer page 59 or this : http://www.ghrib.net/vb/showthread.php?t=13048&s=5bae68ac6fd89398df1005229805f344 for details]

PEARLS OF WISDOM 39 – Feeding is one of the best parts of Islam

When asked : 'What part of Islaam is the best?' The Messenger -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- replied:

تُطْعِمُ الطَّعَامَ ، وَتَقْرَأُ السَّلاَمَ عَلَى مَنْ عَرَفْتَ وَمَنْ لَمْ تَعْرِفْ

'That you feed people, and give Salaam (greetings of peace) to the one whom you know and the one whom you do not know. [1]' [Collected by Bukhari & Muslim]

[1] A point to be noted here is that usually people tend to greet only those whom they know, however the salutation or invocation of Allah's peace upon someone is so precious that the prophet adviced Muslims to spread this beautiful invocation with everyone

PEARLS OF WISDOM 40 – ONE SHOULD BE FRIENDLY WITH THE PEOPLE

From Sahl bin Sa’d in a narration ascribed to the Prophet: -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam:

“The believer is friendly, there is no good in the one who does not take friends and cannot be befriended.”

[Ref: Silsilah Ahadeeth As-Saheehah No.425]
